MEQMP for the Port of Port Hedland

Project MEQMP for the Port of Port Hedland.
Date  2015 – 2016
About the Project Our Services

O2 Marine collaborated with PHIC industry members, key stakeholders, and the OEPA to prepare a MEQMP for the Port of Port Hedland. The project defined environmental values, objectives, and criteria, spatially defined levels of ecological protection, and developed monitoring and management programs in accordance with EAG15 (EPA 2015). The monitoring programs designed included water and sediment quality, benthic habitats, bio-contaminants, and marine fauna.

Outcomes

This project is the first and only MEQMP to be prepared for a WA Port in line with current EPA guidance and expectations for managing marine environment impacts associated with Port operations. The MEQMP provides a consolidated approach to the management of marine environmental quality in Port Hedland and serves as a basis to assess impacts on the marine environmental quality of future development proposals in the region. O2 Marine presented the project to environmental representatives from each WA Port at the Ports WA Conference in December 2016.
