About the Project | Our Services
O2Marine was engaged to prepare a MEQMP for the Port of Port Hedland. This project involved working collaboratively with PHIC industry members, key stakeholders and the OEPA to define environmental values, objectives and criteria, spatially define levels of ecological protection, and develop monitoring and management in accordance with EPA guidance and green port principles. Monitoring programs designed included water and sediment quality, benthic habitats, bio-contaminants and marine fauna. Outcome The project represented the first, and so far, only MEQMP to be prepared for a WA Port in line with current EPA guidance and expectations for managing marine environment impacts associated with Port operations. The MEQMP provides a consolidated approach to the management of marine environmental quality in Port Hedland and a firm basis on which to assess impacts on the marine environmental quality of future development proposals in the region. O2Marine also presented the project to environmental representatives from each WA Port at the Ports WA Conference in December 2016. |
